Brief description Firefighters play a critical role in protecting the safety of the community. Understanding their health is essential to planning and managing personnel. Firefighters are at risk of physical and mental injury and documenting consequences, in the setting of an ageing workforce, are needed for planning and career management. This study of the health of the Metropolitan Fire Service will be used to optimise the longevity of the careers of firefighters and the capacity of the service.
