Title Efficient X-UV Harmonic Generation from Solid Targets by the TITANIA KrF Laser
Contributors
Abstract This report describes the experiment carried out at the Central Laser Facility from 18 November 1996 - 17 January 1997, during six weeks of experimental time. The third and fourth harmonic emissions from a UV laser solid interaction were observed. A transition between X-UV harmonic emission into a cone (whose angle was similar to that of the reflected laser beam) and isotropic emission was observed as the intensity on target was raised. The conversion efficiency as a function of angle peaked at 28 degrees, which is similar to earlier resonance absorption measurements. Reasonable agreement was found with particle in cell simulations for density scalelengths of L/lambda=0.8.
