Title Thermoelastic behavior of graphite from in situ high-pressure high-temperature neutron
Contributors
Abstract We have studied the pressure-volume-temperature relationship of graphite up to pressures of 6 GPa and temperatures up to 1250 K. Neutron powder diffractograms were collected on the PEARL/HiPr diffractometer at ISIS/Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. The heatable Paris-Edinburgh cell was employed. Temperature was measured by neutron resonance absorption spectroscopy. The pressure was obtained from an internal MgO standard. The Rietveld-refined data were fitted with several equation of states. The best fit is obtained with B=38 GPa, B'=dB/dP=9 and a temperature derivative dB/dT=−0.002 GPa K−1. These values are compared to data obtained earlier from diffraction measurements and ultrasound spectroscopy.
