Abstract	The H2020 CompactLight Project aims at designing thenext generation of compact X-rays Free-Electron Lasers, rely-ing on very high gradient accelerating structures (X-band, 12GHz), the most advanced concepts for high brightness elec-tron photo injectors, and innovative compact short-periodundulators. Compared to existing facilities, the proposedfacility will benefit from a lower electron beam energy, dueto the enhanced undulators performance, and will be signifi-cantly more compact, with a smaller footprint, as a conse-quence of the lower energy and the high-gradient X-bandstructures. In addition, the whole infrastructure will alsohave a lower electrical power demand as well as lower con-struction and running costs.
