Title Investigation of quantum yield and energy spectrum of the electrons, emitted from the metal photocathode

Abstract Quantum efficiency measurements have been made in surface analysis equipment at STFC Daresbury Laboratory. Additional experimental apparatus is being developed for the measurement of intrinsic transverse and longitudinal energy spread. A procedure has been developed for preparing a clean surface using oxygen plasma treatment and annealing which gives suitably high quantum efficiency. Alternative metals have also been evaluated. Measurements within the VELA accelerator have confirmed the effectiveness of the preparation procedure. Energy spread measurements have also been made on VELA, but these are dominated by much larger effects than the intrinsic energy spread from the cathode.
