Title Case studies on the best practices in long-term software preservation
Contributors
Abstract Software preservation has not had detailed consideration as a research topic or in practical application. This report presents the findings from two case studies on the approaches of two contrasting organisations, the British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) and the University of York, to long-term maintenance and re-use of software artefacts. The primary objective of these case studies was to gain an understanding of the current best practice in software re-use over the long-term. Additionally, this exercise was envisaged as a means to gain insight into the outlook of the aforementioned organisations towards long-term preservation of software.
