Title The HSL Mathematical Software Library: Past, present and future
Contributors
Abstract A high-level introduction to the library will be provided with some historical context. Our recent work on supporting multicores, Matlab and and our plans for GPUs will be discussed. HSL originated as the Harwell Subroutine Library coming out of AEA Harwell in the early 1960s. Following various transitions it is now developed and maintained by the STFC's Numerical Analysis Group at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. The modern library specialises in sparse linear algebra, especially the solution of AX=B and eigenvalue problems. It is complimented by and supports our GALAHAD optimization library.
