Title PANdata international information infrastructure for synchrotrons: opportunity for collaboration
Contributors
Abstract The PANdata (www.pan-data.eu) organisation brings together thirteen major European research facilities to create a fully integrated information infrastructure for neutron and photon sources serving a user community of about thirty thousand scientists across Europe. The PANData organisation was established in 2007 to promote the mobility of researchers across neutron and photon sources and to maximise the benefits from the data acquired at those facilities. 22% of facility users already use more than one facility because they provide complementary technology. Keeping track of experimental data is increasingly important as the rate at which experiments can be performed and analysed is increasing and the experiments themselves are of increasing complexity. The resulting raw and processed data therefore need to be well curated, and easily accessible enabling researchers from different organizations to seamlessly work together. Our SR 2012 presentation will brief on the PANdata initiative, report on the current state of PANdata infrastructure implementation, and outline the opportunities for synchrotron radiation facilities beyond the European Union to participate in PANdata technological and organizational activities.
