Abstract	This paper describes National Instruments' software package, 'LabVIEW', and discusses its potential usefulness within the laboratory. An introduction to the product and an explanation of the concepts behind it are first given, then its use is illustrated with an example of a specific application by the Soft X-Ray group. Recommendations are made as to the type of applications for which it might more generally be used.
