Title Data management for the Beamlines at Alba
Contributors
Abstract This work covers the tools and interfaces of data acquisition system for the Beamlines. Alba design and the architecture of the control system from both hardware and software points of view. Alba uses the Sardana framework which is written in Python and provides complete access to the hardware and powerful macro language and execution tools. User interaction with Sardana can be done both through a command line interface with SPEC-like commands as well as through graphical interfaces based on the Taurus library and widgets. Sardana can write data to media (files, memory, streams) in several formats thanks to a modular implementation of so-called 'recorders', being NeXus (with HDF5 backend) the most used format for file storage. Since interoperability is a priority, Sardana makes use of standard NeXus Application Definitions to avoid creating yet another incompatible version of NeXus-like HDF5 files. Currently all scan macros generate valid NXscan files. Also, for those beamlines dedicated to techniques for which an standard NeXus Application Definition is available, specific macros will be implemented which generate data following such Application Definition (e.g. the macro for acquiring EXAFS data will generate NXsas files).
