Title Qmx - Asynchronous Remote Data Collection for Macromolecular Crystallography
Contributors
Abstract We present a system for asynchronous remote data collection, called Qmx, in which a user may request data to be collected through a web-based interface to PXDB, our Postgres-based experiment tracking database system. After the samples are run, the results can be viewed through web-based PXDB queries and the user can download and examine the screen images and request additional studies if desired. Users may request straightforward screens, or make use of decision making software in the Python-based data acquisition program, CBASS, to do full data collections if user-defined resolution goals are met. The asynchronous aspect of the system means that the experimenter need not attend the collections in real time, but can still have control over the exact 3D centering of the crystal and the design of the collection based on the initial diffraction screening. At the beamline, data collections from many experimenters can be interleaved, thus allowing for optimization strategies for X-ray beam usage. Because the interface to the experiment is web-based, it eliminates the complication of stringent cybersecurity policies that pose barriers to remote experiment control at some institutions.
