Abstract
An analysis of the energy emitted by a NaF crystal into the peak and background angular distributions in liquid 4He shows that the measured values can be accounted for if a simple form is chosen for the frequency dependence of the transmission coefficient of the background channel, alpha b( omega ). The model takes into account the various stages of phonon propagation from the heater, through the NaF and liquid 4He to the bolometer. The phonon frequency spectra as a function of time are evaluated at each stage. The ratio of the energy in the peak and background as a function of temperature gives values of alpha b(T) which are consistent with the general behaviour found for Kapitza conductances.
