Bryophytes, a lineage that diverged early from other embryophytes evolved during a pivotal moment in the history of terrestrialization and have persisted for hundreds of million years. The .Documenting bryophyte diversification patterns and macroevolutionary history has been challenged by the scarcity of fossils and the lack of a general phylogenetic framework.
