Title
Multi-Access on the Chilton Atlas
Contributors

Abstract
Multi-access facilities have been provided on the Chilton Atlas without degredation of throughput by use of a satellite computer. The satellite, an XDS Sigma 2, is attached to the main machine in two distinct ways: directly, by means of a peripheral link (ie appearing as a paper tape reader/punch), and indirectly, via a large disc file. A filing system (absent from the Atlas operating system) has been implemented on the Sigma 2 and provision is made for Atlas jobs to be initiated using these files. No real-time interaction is possible with a job running on Atlas, but output from the completed job may be directed back into the filing system for inspection at the user's terminal.
