Title Introduction to Emacs Lisp
Contributors
Abstract Emacs is a powerful editor but much of its power is hidden from the casual user. With access to its programming language, it is possible to customise and extend Emacs, from small time-saving scripts, through functions for editing and fixing text data, to full-blown extensions. This one hour talk looks at why a software engineer should learn how to talk to Emacs and how the Emacs language is a Lisp, and how it relates to the standard, Common Lisp. The talk was given to the UK research software engineers' society on 2 July 2020.
