Abstract
The fast and accurate solution of large sparse linear systems of equations is important in many problems from computational science ans engineering. HSL_MA77 is a state-of-the-art high performance, robust, Fortran 95 software package that implements a multifrontal algorithm. It can be used to solve both positive-definite and indefinite linear systems and, by holding the system matrix and its factors out-of-core, it is able to solve very large problems. In this paper, we focus on features of the code that are specifically designed for the more challenging indefinite case and present numerical results for indefinite problems that arise from a range of practical applications.
