Title Sensor web enablement
Contributors
Abstract Sensor outputs may be considered the start of a value-adding information chain ending in a rich complex of inter-related observations of the environment across a range of time and space scales. Emerging standard protocols for integrating and distributing sensor information will greatly enhance the ease with which applications may be developed, and raise the possibility of web-based networks of sensors providing a widely-reused commodity resource underlying a host of new applications. We describe a proposed standard conceptual model for observations and measurements, with an internet-based query interface, and illustrate how it is being used to construct diverse 'sensor webs' with common querying and access mechanisms. An existing example from the marine observing community is demonstrated, and a proposed application to air quality monitoring in Mexico City is described.
