Title Mixed OpenMP and MPI for Fortran Applications
Contributors
Abstract In the five years since the inception of the High Performance Computing Initiative (HPC) in 1994 the support Centres at Daresbury, Edinburgh and Southampton (now Daresbury and Edinburgh working with Manchester CSAR Service) first ported and optimised codes, and more recently contributed to the longer term development of new applications on MPP platforms. To develop optimal codes new parallel algorithms must be tailored to the principal target hardware, currently the Cray T3E-1200E at Manchester, but all codes provided by the Daresbury Centre are designed to be portable and use current standards such as MPI, OpenMP and Fortran. With available hardware now embracing NUMA systemms , for instance IBM, Compaq and SGI, we have begun to develop and optimise applications using a mixture of MPI and OpenMP.
